Is so easy!!!
Wow, I can't believe that it took me so long to do it! I was inspired by a video I watched recently of a lovely woman making it, and it was so fab I straight away made it for us. I plan to make a video soon, to prove how easy it is. But for now, the recipe/instructions.
You will need:
a blender
a sieve
a ceramic or glass bowl
a spatula
large glass mason jar(s) (say 2 cups in size)
a ladle
raw almonds (if your jar is 2 cups, then 1 cup of almonds)
filtered tap water
a little sea salt
a vanilla bean (optional, but don't use icky fake vanilla essence)
Take your glass jar and fill it half way with the raw almonds
Fill to the very top with filtered tap water
Put the lid on
Put in the fridge over night
In the morning, pour off the water, (perhaps water your plants with it) and rinse your almonds (and the jar) well.
Put the almonds back in the jar, refill to the top with fresh clean filtered tap water.
Then pour the contents into the blender (the water and almonds)
Then fill the jar again with water and add that much water to the blender (this will be trial and error until you get to the perfect consistency you like, next time you may try less water, or more)
Add a pinch of sea salt*
Add the vanilla bean*
Blend! You will want to blend on high until it seems pretty smooth.
Then, you pour the contents through your sieve, into your large bowl. Using your spatula to push through the liquids as best as possible.
After your first press you will then put the almond "meat" back into the blender, add a little more water enough to make it blend well ~ blend again.
Repeat the sieving process one more time.
Then you will have a bowl full of delicious almond milk/cream - put the rest of the "meat" that is in the sieve, back in the blender to be a base for a very "dessert" pudding like smoothie (recipe for that will follow soon).
Ladle your milk into your glass mason jar, and have some of it to drink straight away. Save some to make your chia pudding (again, recipe to follow).
This is SO tasty, and so easy, I don't think you will be able to go back to tetra-pack store-bought stuff after you've tried this.
* you can add the salt and vanilla at this point, OR if you prefer, you can put the pure milk (minus the chunks, and blend it up with vanilla and salt then, it's really up to you)
almond milk love smooches
